    Why are we not seeing more people moving from Copper to Pon - especially at a time we want to think about the climate impact. My understanding is hardware is smaller, and does not need cooling, so these are excellent benefits for a small business who does not have the space for a traditional comms rooms

      Hi Hektor - We supply and install a system called Cel-Fi. There are a few different brands but not all conform the local laws of boosting, hence why we only use Cel-Fi as its a trusted brand

    • @NmcablingCoUk
      @NmcablingCoUk 3 месяца назад

      Permanant links have a standard all the way up to 90m. However Patch leads are stranded cable to be more fexible so dont have such a distance as a standard, Maybe 10-20% less depending on the cable - Therefore in a home setting the patch lead will be fine for the same speeds. Cat6 can achieve 10 Gigabit up to 55m so again should be fine for home usage.

    Can you explain how much of a difference in speed and performance I can expect between Cat6 and Cat7 in a typical home network setup?

    • @NmcablingCoUk
      @NmcablingCoUk 4 месяца назад

      In a typical home network setup, you might not notice a significant difference in speed between Cat6 and Cat7, especially if you’re using standard internet speeds. Cat6 supports speeds up to 10 Gbps over short distances (up to 55 meters), while Cat7 can also reach up to 10 Gbps but over longer distances (up to 100 meters) with better shielding against interference. If you’re planning for future-proofing or using advanced networking equipment, Cat7 may be worth considering, but for most home users, Cat6 is usually sufficient.

    Great video! Can you explain if there’s a noticeable performance difference between Cat6 and Cat7 for home use, or is Cat8 overkill for most setups?"

    • @NmcablingCoUk
      @NmcablingCoUk 4 месяца назад

      For most home setups, Cat6 is more than sufficient, offering speeds up to 10 Gbps over shorter distances. Cat7 provides better shielding and slightly higher speeds, but the difference in performance is usually not noticeable for typical home use. Cat8 is overkill unless you’re running a high-performance network

    There is no reason to ever buy Cat 8 cable. Just buy Cat 6a. No hardware has ever been produced that can take advantage of the potential speeds of a cat 8 cable. The fastest ethernet hardware available caps out at 10Gbe. No one ever made anything faster that uses RJ45 connectors. It's all fiber or DAC cabling above 10Gbe. Cat 8 is a waste of money.

      the price difference between cat7 and cat8 is like 5 dollars for a 30ft cable. 5 dollars for insane speed and bandwidth increases. sure we cant access those speeds yet. but maybe one day we could. for 5 bucks you might as well get the better cable and never need to upgrade it ever again

    In short, think of the cables as a hose moving data. The higher the caregory, fhe faster the data flow. Hence cat 6 moves faster than cat 5, but you can pmug a cat 5 into a cat 6 port. However, the 5 will be struggling through a cat 6 port.
